Going for Olympic Reading Gold
The elementary school that the girls go to participate in a program called PARP (Parents as Reading Partners). It is a program which promotes reading at home by clocking the minutes that each child reads alongside their parents. This is generally an easy program to run in our house, especially where Abi is concerned. She is content to pick up a book almost anytime and read. Mikayla is still learning to read, so it is a -bit- more challenging for her, but she does a good job of "picture walking" through a book and using context clues to determine what the story is about. I will often ask her to do that prior to me reading it to her... I will ask her to tell me about what she thinks the story is about first so that we can compare that to the 'real' story. Of course, this only works on new books... not the ones we have read a gazillion times! :)
Anyway, part of the PARP celebration is that it is themed each year with this years theme being "Going for Reading Gold" or something along those lines. Each year there is a photo contest which demonstrates the theme. So here follows the photo shoot pics courtesy of Greg.
What do you think? Which is your favorite?
Tomorrow, we are going ice skating and plan to take a few pics in that arena as well... THAT should be intresting. 1) Me: on ice, 2) with my camera, 3) with children who sort of can skate. ;) Wish me luck. ;)
