18 months...
It is so hard to believe that Mikayla is 18 months old already. Okay, technically, she is 19 months old, but just had her 18 month check-up. She had a multi-tasking appointment this past week... 2 vaccinations (seasonal flu & Hib, etc), an ear check (recently treated for an ear infection), and 18 month well visit.
Her statistics are:
Height: 75% 32 1/4 inches
Weight: 50% 23 pounds 13 ounces
Head circumference: 100% 45.4 cm
She seems to have sprouted recently. When I check on her before going to bed at night, I will often find her sleeping across the short side of the crib which leaves her feet sticking out thru the bars. I'll have to try and snag a picture one of these days. Along with her height, Mikayla's vocabulary is growing too. She still does the point and say 'eh, eh, eh' but she also says "Mommy", "Daddy", "Abi" (a favorite), "kitty", "No" (probably her favorite of all), "Yuck", "Pa-pa!", "Meow"... She is in her mimic stage of life. Whatever Abi does, Mikayla does... from dancing around the room, squealing Very loudly to playing with the 'babies' or building blocks. When the two are playing nicely together, it is an awesome sight. I hope that they will remain close throughout life...
Abi has changed greatly recently too. She is doing things more independently and has intellectual conversations with us. Just the other day...
Scene: Friday morning. The van en route to Abi's school.
Abi to Greg: "Daddy, I think we're arguing."
Greg to Abi: "I don't think we are arguing Abi."
Abi: "We're making a decision Daddy. My decision is the right one."
Oh, and by the way, Greg couldn't even remember what they were talking about when he relayed the story... He was so floored by her answers. :-)
She also has been more in-tuned by everyday happenings in the world around us. The girls came with me when I went to donate blood last week. Abi was so enthralled with how the process works as well as why we were doing it. As parents, we try hard to teach empathy and understanding to those less fortunate or different... and to see her take such an active interest in learning is very heartwarming.
Other things that have gone on in our lives since the last post are less exciting... We have a new software system at work (RxConnect). Supposedly, the new software is faster, better, and more intuitive to pharmacy operations... I say supposedly, because I haven't been on the new system a week yet and I still feel the 'old' way is faster. ... The new software does have some really great traits and features. I'm looking forward to having conquered the learning curve. I know, in time, I will be old hat at it... as I was with our old system.
I cannot remember what I last wrote about Greg's job, but he is now 60% time at Herkimer-BOCES. He seems to really be enjoying it and likes the schedule of a 'real' job. :) He is currently rewriting the curriculum (I think) for Global 9 (i.e. Social Studies).
I hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving. While this year has not always been the easiest, I still feel blessed by my friends and family. Thank you to you all for everything.
